Pre-Spring Cleanin'

Last week I went a bit batty.  On Monday morning, I got a bee in my bonnet about finishing old crafting projects.  I set aside my usual Monday rituals (cleaning the house, ekkk) and began categorizing and finishing the endless string of half-bummed-was-a-good-idea projects.

In my craft room I have a shelf with three white baskets.  These are the "black holes" in my life (irony, they're white, I get it)- things that I started, got bored with, set aside, and forgot about.  So with my new found bravery, I drug those bad boys down and started drudging through the land of misfit fabric projects.

Mostly they were filled with quilt top pieces that I had great intenions for someone as a gift, but must have seen something shiny and left them in the dust.  Poor guys.

I rifled through the first basket and immediately starting laughing.  It was filled with quilt pieces for my "Red, White, & Liberty" quilt- yup, that guy got put back up on the shelf for a rainy-er day.

The next basket was filled with a bunch of black and white fabric that I've collected over the years.  I figured I could make a simple lap quilt for myself and got to cutting 6.5x6.5 inch squares.  After laying out the pieces, labeling the rows, and putting them in the basket, I saw something shiny....back to the shelf with you!

The last basket was filled with the ugliest fabric I've ever seen in my life.  I loath floral patterns; however, a few years ago I came across two jelly rolls for $3 bucks.  My cheap-scape side kicked it and I bought it, but bless its heart, that is some ugly fabric!

To forgive it for being so dern gross, I decided to title it my "Wonky Flower Patch" quilt- it will have a modern spin with traditional, grandmammy-style fabric.  I cut, sewed, squared up, and finished making all of the squares.  Then got annoyed with that horrible floral mess and set it back on the shelf.

After placing my baskets back on the dust-collecting shelf, I finished a baby quilt for a co-worker.  I have to admit- I'm obsessed with making baby stuff.  It's so easy to make, super cute, and by golly it makes me giggle. This quilt was probably my favorite baby quilt  to make because of the person I made it for.  This gal is always smiling and so fun loving, so picking out the fabric and making those flowers were that much more entertaining!  Can't wait to meet the 'lil nugget!

In the spirit of baby stuff, I tackled another project that I've been giving evil eyes to for several months.  This project was supposed to be for my nephew, however 7 months later I have yet to finish it.  UNTIL NOW!  Mwahahaha!

The reason I despise this project was because I do not like using patterns.  Yeah, I said it.  No patterns.  I typically design my own, yet wanted to make a shopping cart seat cover and didn't know where to start.  After purchasing a "sewing pattern for dummies", cutting the fabric, and following the directions to a T, I launched the entire pile of crap across the room.  It stayed there for 7 months.

But seeing as how I'm a determined, fire-filled individual I finished the stupid thing (and re-designed the entire pattern for future covers that isn't written in a idiotic fashion- maybe I'll make a tutorial out of it one day).

Then I made a taggy to remind myself that this fabric is dino-mite (HA!), and that it doesn't have to be associated with stupid purchased patterns....

Ah, what about this pre-cut fabric pack that I bought years ago?  Sure, why not, let's make that tiny baby quilt!

By Friday I was bored with fabric, so I made a new decoration for our front door.  It's a decopaged letter that has been hanging around my craft room for the past few weeks.  Congrats, big K, you found a happy home!

On Sunday, the hubs told me that he wanted his dining room table back.  Womp.  Time to do that Monday ritual of cleaning that I put off the entire week....but not before I made a JoAnn's run and got some sweet charm packs in the mail!  Ooooo, so many projects, so many more to actually finish!

See ya'll later!
